Reportedly, Kabir’s Mother was a Hindu and his Father a Muslim by faith. However, in his personal maturity, he was neither a traditional Hindu nor a Muslim; but a self enriched human being, which reflects and radiates eloquently out of his heart rending poetry.

During his lifetime, reportedly the traditional Hindus and Muslims hurled stones of disrespect at him. But later as his poetry reverberated through the consciousness of humanity, his profile is painted claiming him as a Hindu saint as well as a Muslim sufi. He was neither; just purely himself.

Kabir was an illiterate man of his era by today's definition.  Kabir. Kabir (1398 - 1518) was an Indian mystic and a sufi saint who preached an ideal of seeing all of humanity as one.

Kabir did not attend conventional school because he was a traditional hard working weaver and probably poor. However his eloquent poetry was conjured up out of his simple spoken language of Banaras / Varanasi.

Kabir’s poetry was woven on the Handloom, using the fine yarn spun out of pure devotion. His Garden of Eden, symbolic of bliss, peace and tranquility was embodied in his Poetry. He had no desire to eat the Apple of Knowledge offered by humanity at large.

One of Kabir’s devotional rendering in his own colloquial Hindi language presented below reveals its boundless dimensions. Any attempt at translating it in English such as “ I am from the foreign land my dear and not from here “ fails utterly even to communicate the fragrance of its very essence.
